Granny Square

I can crochet my sister showed me how when I was ten but my problem I don't actually know what I'm doing!
What I mean I can't follow a pattern because I don't know what my stitches are called. So I think I need a book for beginners to work out what exactly I'm doing.
But squares no problem and I've recently found out that squares like these are called Granny squares. This another project I've finished and I've started another in purples, my DD favourite colours.
Although I did try to work from a pattern and totally lost it when trying to work out how to do a cluster, well its now several square too late to work it out but I'm happy how they're turning out.
It will be another year before it will actually get finish but for now its a welcome change from cross-stitch.

  13. Ha Ha, I did laugh Debby cos' I am exactly the same. Have been crochering since I was about 12 and the only thing I ahve ever done are squares which I sew together and make blankets, for ever occasion. My Nana, My Baby Neice, etc.
I am very quick, but can't follow a pattern either.
Your blanket is just gorgeous. Debbiex

  14. Gorgeous blanket, Debby, and I'd say you don't need to be able to follow a pattern, you're doing just fine without one :) However, if you are determined to learn more you could check out some of the great videos on YouTube - that's where I went when I took up the crochet hook after a break of more than 20 years and it really helped. Hope you have a happy Easter weekend. Elizabeth xx

  15. Oh Debby, I remember learning to crochet and knit before I could do much else! I was always fascinated seeing my mum do stuff, and insisted I had my own tapestry kits and cross stitch kits all before I was ten years old! lol :)

Like you I can do granny squares (with my eyes shut) but my mum used to do all the cotton crochet doilies and they were just beautiful :)

Love your cosy blanket - I could do with that now! :)

    Happy Easter hun!

    hugs

  17. Love those blankets. I used to do them as a teenager - the limit of my crochet too. But we called them Peggy Squares. My grandmother's name was Peg - perhaps that is why we called them that lol.
